ADHD Tips and Tricks

People with ADHD have unique needs when it comes to getting the job done. Through experience, I can help with some of the tools I employ to fight against Executive Dysfunction and be FunctionAlly Fit. One size does not fit all, and everything is tailored to what works for you.

Doppelhanging

One on one or as a group, sometimes all you need is to Body Double, and have another person with you virtually to engage part of your brain while you work. The tasks can be large or small - from finishing a report before the deadline, to washing the dishes.

Productivity Sprints

Another form of Body Doubling, this more structured approach can be conducted virtually, one on one or as a group. It consists of short bursts of productivity interspersed with check-ins and will help keep you on track and accountable. This is especially great for time-sensitive matters.

Creativity Sprints

Just like Productivity Sprints, but used for creative projects like art, writing, crafts, music, etc. They are also conducted virtually, one on one or as a group, with short bursts of creative productivity interspersed with check-ins. Prompts are picked for optional inspiration.

Public Speaking

Does your group need a speaker to get them motivated? Learn about Functional Fitness as a group, with group exercises and discussion.

What is Executive Dysfunction?

Executive dysfunction is a term used to describe difficulties with executive function skills. While prevalent among people with ADHD, it can affect others as well.

Executive dysfunction isn’t just being forgetful or disorganized occasionally. It might be much harder to plan, organize, strategize, pay attention to details, and manage time, causing disruption to one’s ability complete even simple tasks. 

What is Body Doubling?

Body Doubling is a productivity technique that involves having another person nearby while you work on a task. Their presence is meant to keep you on task, focused, motivated, and accountable. This can be done in person or virtually. The technique is popular among people with ADHD, but can be useful for anyone.
